Thatcham returned to Waterside Park after saturdays 7-0 defeat away to Cirencester hoping for better fortunes but it was not to be as they went down to a goal in each half .
Included in the team was Callum Willmoth (back from suspension) but there were no Tom Gooding and Jordan Seward .
The first chance of the match fell to Thatcham a left wing cross to the far post low and hard Kalief Madden diving in for a header inches short when the slightest touch would have resulted in a goal . Paul Coventry found his self in the referees book for a high tackle . Thatcham continued to push push forward but (as with Cirencester Saturday) Godalming were quick and dangerous on the break , and so it proved in the 15th minute when a break down the right wing the ball was played in to Graeme Purdy whose snap shot beat Jamie Foster at the near post . 1-0 .Thatcham tried to respond with efforts Coventrys shot over from Maddens left wing cross , Etheridge right wing low cross was met by Romeo his shot deflected into keeper Zaki Ovalahs hands , a long shot fro Etheridge just wide , a McCready freekick into the area knocked back to Coventry who shot wide and a McCready freekick into the arms of the keeper . For each of these attempts Godalming worked our defence who managed to hold firm . Thatcham thought they had got an equaliser on 40 minutes when a high corner dropped in the middle of Godalmings 6 yard box Ovalah could only push the ball away when under pressure it was met by Carl Evans and his shot was somehow clered on the line and the follow up shot also cleared (summing up our luck at the moment) . On the break Foster saved braverly at the feet of the oncoming forward when one on one . The half finished 0-1 .
Thatchams hopes of an early equaliser in the second half were quashed when Mark Watkins met a ball into the area and placed it past Foster for 0-2 and this seemed to knock the stuffing out of Thatcham and Godalming for long periods took control with Thatcham using the counter attacked but Godalming held firm . Foster had to make a couple of good saves pushing one shot wide and saving low down at his post right at the death .
