And in between those wins, the Youth Team earned a 7-1 win over Wallingford & Crowmarsh in an FA Youth Cup Preliminary Round tie.
Having slipped to the foot of the table albeit at an early stage of the season, Saturday’s 1-0 win at Horley Town was followed by a win by the same scoreline at Eversley & California on Tuesday night.
The Kingfishers bounced back from a Bank Holiday Monday defeat at Tadley with 3 points at Horley’s The New Defence ground. The game featured two saved penalties as firstly Callum Willmoth saw his first-half spot-kick saved for Thatcham. Cam Philbey’s side took the lead as Oliver Denner pounced on a mix-up at the back and rolled home the opening goal on 80 minutes. Thatcham then conceded a penalty towards the end but Maciej Wiezcorek dived to his left to make the save.
After drawing a blank in last season’s cursed Southern League campaign, incredibly that was Thatcham’s first away win in the league since April 2024, almost 500 days ago.
Then on Tuesday Thatcham made a shorter trip to Eversley & California, and again scored the only goal of the game.
After a quiet opening period, Thatcham stepped it up after the break and Callum Winchcombe fired home what proved to be the winning goal after 50 minutes. Archie Denton almost added a second when his header was blocked by the keeper and cleared off the line, while the hosts pinged a shot from distance against the crossbar. Town’s golden boot winner from the 2023/24 season, Jordi Ebanda, made a substitute appearance for Eversley, where he's on dual registration.
Next up for Thatcham is a home game against Camberley Town on Saturday.
