Thatcham Town v Cribbs

Thatcham Town v Cribbs

Andy Morris17 Dec 2024 - 16:43

Thatcham are back in action at the Mettal Stadium this evening (kick-off 7:45pm) for the visit of Cribbs.

Thatcham won at Cribbs 1-0 in the FA Trophy earlier this season thanks to Shamar Moore’s first goal for the club. In the closing stages Sonny Harnett-Balkwill had a potential equaliser disallowed for off-side, then Will Edwards was fouled in the box giving Town a very late penalty, but Sam Tanner’s spot-kick was saved.

Cribbs are currently three points better off than Town, having played an extra game. At the start of the month they gained an unexpected 2-1 win at leaders Yate Town, but failed to build on that, having since lost 1-0 at home to Bemerton Heath Harlequins, then 5-0 at Westbury United last weekend. They are still settling in to life under new manager Ryan Crouch, after Ashley Bennett stepped down at the start of November.

All this is a far cry from their 2023-24 campaign when Cribbs lost just six league games all season. A crowd of 837 saw them defeated by local rivals Bristol Manor Farm in the play-off semi.

Three successive home postponements mean that Town have played seven successive away games. Their dismal away form has shown signs of turning around after picking up draws at Bishops Cleeve (4-4) and then Helston Athletic (2-2) on Saturday. Defeats were suffered at Bemerton Heath, then Beaconsfield Town in the Berks & Bucks Cup but both were accompanied by decent performances.

Shamar Moore picked up a knock in Saturday's fixture, however Jamie Davies, harshly red-carded on his Kingfishers’ debut is eligible for tonight’s game.
