Tatnam Door Still Open For Cook

Tatnam Door Still Open For Cook

Matthew Lovegrove1 Dec 2011 - 10:00

Poole Town boss Tommy Killick insists Russell Cook’s Tatnam career is far from over, despite the striker joining Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South & West rivals Wimborne Town.

The front man last week signed for the Magpies and made his debut in their defeat against Cinderford Town on Saturday. Cook’s switch followed a frustrating spell with the Dolphins this season as he attempted to regain top form following a lengthy injury lay-off. A key man prior to suffering a serious ankle problem last term, Cook netted forty-six goals for Poole after making the move from Christchurch during the 2008/09 campaign. Cook’s form alongside Charlie Austin, who later earned a high-profile move to Swindon, was rumoured to have caught the attention of scouts from the Football League. But since spending much of last term on the sidelines, the ex-Priory star has struggled to regain his Dolphins starting spot due to the performances of fellow forwards including Dan Cann and Scott Joyce. Cook has now opted to reunite with former Dolphins assistant manager Steve Cuss at Cuthbury. But he could return to Poole in the future after Killick confirmed the door remained ajar, as it had done for Taffy Richardson when he spent a brief spell with Wimborne earlier in the season. Killick said: “It is not officially a loan because he is a non-contract player. It is a bit like the Taffy Richardson situation. “But if Russell can go there and get regular games and play like I know he can, then I would be looking to have him back. “I really hope the move to Wimborne can allow him to play the way everyone at Poole knows he can. “If he can do that, everyone has never been in any doubt that he could probably progress beyond this league.” Wimborne boss Cuss, who also last week bolstered his striking options with the signing of Dorchester Town’s Rico Wilson, is pleased to have Cook at Cuthbury. He said: “I’m delighted to have Russell on board. I worked with him before and he’s a good quality player.” Former AFC Bournemouth apprentice Wilson, 21, remains registered with Dorchester Town after Cuss confirmed he would be with Wimborne “for a period of time”.
