MATCH REPORT : Thatcham Town 2-0 Tavistock

Andy Morris27 Apr - 17:44

The relegated Kingfishers took their frustrations out on Tavistock, registering a comfortable 2-0 victory in the season’s final match

Thatcham made a bright start with Mo Ceesay twice denied by Aaron Dearing, before Ben Portbury opened the scoring on 34 mins. Callum Willmoth’s ball in to the box was cleared only as far as Portbury whose emphatic strike from the edge of the box flew into the top corner.

After the break Tavvy keeper Aaron Dearing made flying saves to tip headers from Christian Johnson then Ceesay around the post.

Johnson and Callum Willmoth saw efforts graze the roof of the net as Thatcham piled on the pressure.

However Johnson made the points safe when he muscled his way on to Willmoth’s ball and rolled the ball under the keeper for Town’s second on 77 minutes.

Tavistock contributed to a competitive match but failed to create clear cut chances for top scorer Liam Prynn. In the first half Matt Pullinger held Jack Crago’s attempted lob and kept out Tyler Elliott’s powerful effort.
