MATCH REPORT : Redhill 1 - 0 Thatcham Town

Andy Morris26 Feb - 22:33

Thatcham suffered a setback, losing by a single goal at play-off chasing Redhill

In a game of few chances, a first-half tap-in by Alex Keating decided the game.

Kick-off was delayed due to heavy traffic and a car breakdown. Coupled with a boggy pitch, it revived memories of the recent abandonment of this fixture, but on a dry evening the game progressed without any further threat.

With Dan Smith playing in an advanced role, Thatcham suffered an early setback as Curtis Angell picked up a knock and was withdrawn.

Redhill won a series of corners which the Town defence dealt with. At the other end Callum Willmoth was off-target with a 20 yard free-kick, while Mackenzie Creech couldn’t quite wrap his foot around an opportunity after sub Kenny Antony centred from the touchline.

But on 39 minutes the hosts broke through as they found a spare man down the left wing deep in Thatcham territory, who crossed for Keating to finish high into the net from close range.

The second half continued in a similar vein with Thatcham showing some decent passing moves without carving out clear opportunities.

Similarly Redhill applied pressure but didn’t really force Maciej Wieczorek into action.

Creech and Luke Polding shot narrowly wide from 25 yards before the latter was forced off with a shoulder injury.

In the closing moments a clearance fell nicely for Fin Tombs but his 20 yard effort smacked against a defender and the danger was cleared.
