Thatcham made the long journey down to Falmouth and returned empty-handed despite an encouraging performance.
It was an epic day for Thatcham, who departed The Mettal Stadium at 7am and returned home at midnight with no reward for their efforts.
In the past Town had previously made the trip to Truro, but Falmouth is a few miles beyond, and the team face even longer trips to Helston and Mousehole later this season.
The Kingfishers began brightly with debutant Harry Thorpe making a lively start. Thorpe, Sam Tanner and Kyle Daniel-Spray all fired over in the opening minutes.
Tinashe Gwavava, Shamar Moore and Daniel-Spray each had good efforts blocked as Falmouth defended desperately during the opening half, but the hosts scored from their first chance as Rubin Wilson pounced upon a loose ball following some head tennis to lash home.
In the second half Yash Romeo’s side continued to play neat football and put the hosts on the back foot. However the hosts exploited space left at the back, and Callum Smart was called upon to make some saves to keep Thatcham in it, with Andrew Elcock and Cameron Hutchison going close.
As Thatcham pressed, Daniel-Spray and Roberto Nditi saw efforts go over the bar. In injury time a loose ball finally fell to a Thatcham player in the box, but Oli Bourne’s close-range effort was deflected over by Bradley Leivers.
Despite 8 minutes of injury time, added to 9 in the first-half, Thatcham were unable to get the goal their efforts deserved.
The game was the 100th in a Town jersey for Mo Ceesay, and 50th for Sam Tanner. Thatcham wish Falmouth full-back Tom Fisher well in his recovery, after he suffered a broken ankle early in the game.
