The game was settled in the 86th minute as Thatcham failed to clear a corner and Zach Scott nodded the loose ball home from six yards out.
When looking back at a season where virtually nothing has gone the club’s way, a baffling but damning statistic is that the team have failed to pick up a single away win.
The club could easily point to half-a-dozen games where a point or three could and should have been earned on the road. Yesterday's game - the final away fixture of the season yet the first away game of the season played within an hour of Thatcham - was no exception.
In a first-half of few chances, Town had the ball in the net when Ben Portbury’s shot was saved and Jadyn Dundas followed-up but the flag was raised - though match footage subsequently confirmed suspicions it was a harsh call.
After the interval, Dan Warre fizzed a shot wide for Didcot, and the same player fired wide at the near post when under pressure from Tinashe Gwavava.
Dundas capitalised on a mistake at the back and squared for Harvey Flippance but goalkeeper Leigh Bedwell got something on the striker’s shot and the ball trickled agonisingly wide.
Following Scott's breakthrough, Portbury and Mo Ceesay saw shots blocked on the line as the Kingfishers again ended up with nothing to show for their efforts.
