A hard fought win sees Thatcham Town through to the next round of the League Cup.

On an extremely wet evening with slick condition on the pitch, Danny Robinson’s men faced Hartley Wintney in the Southern League’s Challenge Cup.

It was to be a reverse fixture of last seasons penalty shoot out drama at Tje Stacatruc Stadium in which over 21 penalties were taken but the away side went through.

Paul Strudley who is well known to both sides, played in goal in last night’s game and kept the team in the game right through to the end.

Callum Willmoth was back from a 3 match ban and provided two assists for George George Jeacock and Felipe Barcelos. He also made important tackles when defending.

George got on the score sheet and Felipe managed a brace to increase his season’s goal tally. It wasn’t to be all Thatcham Town’s was and the home side battled to get in front twice after a sending off to Jordan Williams for his 2nd yellow, with the resulting penalty putting them
3-2 up.

Not to be deterred, Barcelos managed to round the keeper for the 2nd time in the game to draw level after only a minute.

The game was finally won after new player and substitution Fabio Pinto rose in between two giant defenders to head the ball from close range. Town held on for 12 minutes to see out the win.

Another 4-3 win for the lads and this time another round in the cup. The draw is yet to be made.
