Thatcham surrendered their unbeaten league record and missed the chance to go top of the league with defeat against Slimbridge. The visitors created a string of chances and were good value for their win with Thatcham below their best.
The game started with Slimbridge seeing a lot of the ball but with Thatcham looking dangerous on the break through Felipe Barcelos and Kyle Tooze. The deadlock was broken on 35 minutes when Danny King latched onto a lofted through ball, taking a good touch before finding the bottom corner. Thatcham looked for a response but were unable to create a clear chance on goal, going in one down at the break.
Thatcham found an equaliser on 53 minutes with Zak Westlake powering in a header from a corner. However only 3 minutes later Slimbridge regained the lead with Christien Turner on hand to scramble home after Thatcham were unable to clear a corner.
Thatcham brought on Scot Rees as they searched for a way back into the game but they were lacking their usual fluency with passes going astray. Slimbridge sealed the win on 64 minutes when Ryan Beckinsale expertly lobbed in over Archie Matthews in the Thatcham goal.
Slimbridge could have added further to their lead but a late long range drive rattled the cross bar. Thatcham fell to their first league defeat of the season with Slimbridge gaining a deserved 3-1 win.
