Late Nvumba equaliser rescues Town

Jaime Obama-Nvumba netted an injury time equaliser to deny Merstham their first win of the season. The substitute won possession in his own half, then set Mo Ceesay off on a surging run before receiving the ball back, rounding the keeper and scoring.

Thatcham forced the early running with Ramarni Medford-Smith advancing down the left and seeing his cross go untouched as it bobbled narrowly wide. Mo Ceesay and Levi Heholt saw shots pushed behind by Filip Chalupniczak. However Merstham grew into the game and as Town failed to clear a corner, Bryan Zepo fired straight at Toby Fisher from close range.

In the second half the visitors continued to grow in confidence however the Kingfishers missed a great chance on the hour when a cross from the right found its way to Cameron Rohart-Brown in front of goal but Chalupniczak blocked the shot.

Thatcham paid the price, as eight minutes later Zepo found space on the edge of the box to fire a low shot in the bottom corner.

As the game became increasingly scrappy and heated, the visitors looked set to win the points before Obama-Nvumba’s late intervention.

In the dying seconds Merstham’s Lorenzo Lewis received a red card for a lunging tackle, with Kingfishers captain Josh Edwards also ordered off after picking up his second yellow in the incident.
