A statement from Dave Melin following the departure of Danny Robinson

Good morning.

Firstly I hope that everyone is keeping safe and well, looking after their loved ones and checking in on their neighbours at this difficult time.

Yesterday we parted company with our First Team Manager Danny Robinson. Danny has been a fantastic manager for Thatcham Town and has led us to the highest achievement in this club’s history; lifting the FA Vase at Wembley in 2018. Alongside that, the club has progressed through the leagues and when the season was ended in March, we were sitting at the top of the Southern League Division 1 South, with an excellent chance of playing our football at Step 3 this coming season.

We would like to place on record our thanks for his commitment, drive and passion during his 5 years at the club.

Just over a year ago when I was appointed as Thatcham Town chairman, I met with Danny and his coaching team to look at what was possible for the upcoming season. Danny and I had a shared vision which was for the club to play their football at the highest possible level. It is no secret that Danny has always wanted to test himself at the highest level from a management perspective and we both hoped that we could do that together.

Unfortunately - the opportunity for Danny to manage at a higher level arrived and yesterday he moved on to a new club. We had been in contract talks with Danny for some time but the current pandemic and the uncertainty around the perilous state of non-league football, coupled with the club being closed for a few months had not led to a conclusion. This is typically the busiest time of the year for the club with bookings, weddings, parties and tournaments and the long-term sustainability of the club is at the heart of every decision.

So today our search for a new manager begins. Due to the increased profile of the club, we have already had a number of enquiries and we look forward to speaking with interested parties.

Those wishing to apply can send their CV to chairman@thatchamtown.com with a covering letter.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and when it is safe to do so - we look forward to seeing all of you return to the club to watch football.
