Southern League action returns to Waterside Park on Saturday as the Kingfishers welcome ninth-placed Winchester City (3:00 kick off.)

The Blues are aiming to bounce back after their last outing resulted in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Slimbridge; bringing an end of their impressive unbeaten run.

Winchester drew their last fixture 2-2 with Cinderford after consecutive 4-0 thrashings over Mangotsfield United and Blackfield and Langley.

Thatcham were edged out of the last encounter between the two teams back in August after Tyrell Mitford’s late winner saw Winchester clinch a 3-2 win.

One person who is more than familiar with this weekend’s opponents is Blues manager Danny Robinson, who started his managerial career with the Citizens: “Winchester is where I very first started managing so it’s a club that’s very close to my heart.

“It’s a very good football club. Craig Davis is doing fantastically well, they’ll be in and around the play-off spots come the end of the season – that’s how good they’re doing. It’s going to be a really tough game for us tomorrow.”

But the hosts received a boost with the announcement that James Glover has signed from Wantage Town. The midfielder is available for selection and could make his debut at Waterside Park.

“He’s a good signing for us, a box-to-box player who likes a tackle. He’s a winner which is important at this level,” said Robinson.

Lewis Coyle is also ready to return to action after recovering from injury but Scott Rees and Adam Kelly remain doubts heading into the game.

Just three points separate the two sides approaching the fixture so a victory for Thatcham would see the Kingfishers equal Winchester’s total points tally with a game in hand over their opponents.
