Southern League action returns to Waterside Park today as Thatcham Town host Cinderford Town (3:00 kick-off)

The Kingfishers climbed two places in the Southern League after their recent 2-1 victory over Mangotsfield United, whilst the away side sit eighth with five points separating the two teams.

Despite the away side dropping points in their last outing, a 2-1 loss to Fleet Town, Blues manager Danny Robinson is wary of the quality his side’s upcoming opponents possess:

“They are an absolute great side,” said the 32-year-old.

“Once again I think they are going to be in or around the play-offs come the end of the season. They are a very good side.

“We’ve worked on bits and pieces throughout the week and they are one of the teams you have to respect. But we’ve also got our own agenda and of course, if we play to our best capabilities then you never know what the result can be.”

After being hampered with injury woes in in their last game, Robinson's team have since received a boost by having Tom Melledew back from his suspension, with Jahson Downes also a possibility for the match.

The visitors will be without Alex Harris for the game as he remains suspended following his sending off in the defeat to Fleet.

James Tennant looks unlikely to feature for the home side though, as he continues to recover from injury.

With the gap between Thatcham and Cinderford only stretched to four points, Robinson highlighted the unpredictability of the Southern League, and how important a result a win would be for the Kingfishers:

“They are as good as any three points that you can pick up. The league is very tight.

“You win and you could be three points off of the play-offs, you lose and you could be six points off of the bottom three so it is a big game and one we’re going to look forward to.”
