The FA Trophy returns to Waterside Park this weekend! (Saturday 3:00pm kick-off)

After brushing aside Cirencester Town two weeks ago, Thatcham Town now go toe-to-toe with Melksham Town in the FA Trophy First Qualifying Round.

The Kingfishers return to Waterside Park looking to bounce back from their narrow 1-0 loss to Street in the Southern League, while the visitors are also aiming to avenge their recent 3-2 defeat against Blackfield and Langley.

But Melksham boast an astounding away record this season, having lost only one game on the road, and Thatcham manager Danny Robinson spoke highly of his team's upcoming opponents:

“They are a cracking side,” said the 32-year-old. “They are a big strong side who haven’t changed much from last year so we do know what we’re going into but we have to be at our best and that’s what we’re focusing on.”

Robinson is, of course, referring to last season’s FA Vase quarter-final fixture between the two sides, with the Kingfishers progressing 1-0 thanks to Ekow Elliot’s late strike .

And the Thatcham boss' hopes of emulating that victory will be boosted by having an almost full squad at his disposal, apart from cup-tied Stuart Cattell.

The Blues have placed emphasis towards maintaining a steady run of form in the Southern League this season but Robinson maintains that progression in the FA Trophy is still a high priority:

“You can’t not enjoy trophy games against a good, good side and hopefully there will be a big crowd here as well. That’s the reason why you play football.

“Any game is important. You want to try and win so we look forward to it and hopefully it will be a big game.”

If the two sides are goalless after the full-time whistle blows, a replay will be arranged for Monday 29th October at 7:30pm.
