Thatcham Town 0 - 2 Moneyfields
By Andy Morris
On an Autumnal afternoon at Waterside Park, this Southern League fixture went to form as Moneyfields extended their unbeaten run to 8 games.
The first half was tight and largely uneventful, with Felipe Barcelos dropping an early header wide for the visitors, and George Jeacock going close with a couple of half-chances for Town.
The second half started in a similar fashion but a moment of quality broke the deadlock as on 55 minutes Steve Hutchings’ dipping shot from outside the area flew into the back of Chris Rackley’s goal.
That brought the game to life, as both Jeacock and Moneyfields’ Woodward fired in firm, low shots which needed good handling from the respective goalkeepers in the damp conditions.
The Kingfishers were unlucky a few minutes later when, after good approach play from Lewis Coyle, Jack Alexander fired a first-time shot against the top of the crossbar from 25 yards. Manager Danny Robinson introduced Josh Helmore and Shane Cooper-Clark to add more attacking threat but it was the visitors that finished the stronger and went on to seal victory.
Rackley made a flying save to deny Dan Wooden following a well-worked free-kick. But Moneyfields wrapped the game up on 86 minutes when Hutchings' shot from the edge of the box took a deflection, and though Rackley got a hand to the ball he couldn’t prevent it from trickling over the line.
