Strudley, who was involved at Waterside Park last season in more of a coaching capacity, is eager to resume his playing career with the Kingfishers. Last season he played four times for the Kingfishers while making several appearances for Hartley Wintney with whom he was dual-registered. But now he is signed up to be Thatcham’s first choice keeper for the 2019/20 season.
Strudley has a long association with Thatcham Town, with his involvement stretching back to 2004. He served as the club’s goalkeeper throughout the previous Southern League days through to the 2011/12 season. Upon departing for Hungerford he was part of The Crusaders’ rise up the football ladder before moving on to Hartley Wintney.
Upon re-signing, Strudley commented “Succeeding Chris Rackley gives me some big gloves to fill, as he played a key part in Thatcham’s recent League and FA Vase successes. Last year I saw first hand how the club gradually settled in the Southern League and continued to improve as the season went on. Having spoken with Danny about becoming the club’s full time goalkeeper I am excited about the season ahead.”
Strudley is also keen to continue passing on his experience to the younger goalkeepers at the club, including Ben Morton who kept goal for the Youth Team in last season’s Berks & Bucks Youth Cup success.
